GoTriangle has developed the GoPerks program to encourage Triangle-area drivers to try something besides riding alone and to support smart commuters to keep up the good work. Beginning January 2015, the GoPerks program will continue GoTriangle’s goal of reducing traffic, helping employees save money, and improve the environment and quality of life by introducing prize drawings for smart commuters.
Using ShareThRideNC, Triangle area commuters can use an online calendar to track each day they use a smart commute. Each smart commute by carpool, vanpool, transit, biking or walking earns points. After tracking commute modes in the calendar for 90 days – long enough to make a new commute option comfortable and routine – points are redeemed for entries in monthly and quarterly drawings for gift certificates and prizes. Partnerships with employers and local businesses are fundamental to the success of this robust rewards program. The program is free but the rewards are priceless!
How to Use GoPerks:
Using www.ShareTheRideNC.org, employees use an online calendar to track each day they use a smart commute. Each smart commute earns points to use for entry in monthly and quarterly drawings for gift certificates and prizes. Users must track a minimum of ten trips in a 90 day period to be eligible for the drawings. The program is free but the rewards are priceless!
Who is eligible for GoPerks incentives?
Only employees who live or work in Durham, Orange or Wake counties are eligible. Participants must use a smart commute option to travel to work and their employer must be registered in the free Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program. ERH is free for employers and employees. Learn about the free ERH program at http://www.gotriangle.org/erh.
How do I earn points to enter drawings?
Trip tracking through the Commuter Calendar tool gives ½ point for each trip, with a maximum of 1 point per day. Most users will receive 1 point each day for the trip they tracked to work and back home. Participants can only receive points for travel to and from work - carpool, vanpool, bike, walk and transit trips all count.
What types of prizes or incentives are offered?
Gift cards to local restaurants, retailers, and businesses will be the most common type of incentive, but incentives will change often, so check back regularly.
When can I redeem my points?
Points can be redeemed at any time during the Qualifying Period. Each prize has a Deadline, so be sure to redeem points before the Deadline ends if you want to enter the drawing. The Qualifying Period and Deadline dates are listed with each prize.
Sponsorships, financial, or in-kind donations, are fundamental to providing these reward programs. Please consider supporting GoTriangle – it is a great way to promote your company’s social responsibility, and to gain brand awareness and visibility across the Triangle. Partnership options include logo placement in emails to thousands across the Triangle, booth placement at major events, co-branded promotional items, and much more.

Challenge regional commuters to change their commute from driving alone to work. Your partnership can reward 200 employees for not driving solo – that’s more than a ½ mile of cars in rush hour traffic! Even if drivers carpooled only twice a week, CO2 would be reduced by more than 200 tons – improving the air and quality of life for families across the Triangle.
Reward more than 150 commuters for developing commuter habits that are environmentally responsible and cost –effective .By carpooling or taking the bus twice a week for a year, an employee can save $440 in a year. A committed carpooler can save $1,100 in just 12 months - that’s enough for a mortgage payment or great vacation!
Increase awareness of commuting options that are sustainable for the expansion of the region. We’re home to the fastest growing city in the nation, but our roadways and bridges aren’t. Help increase awareness of options and encourage smart commuting so we can keep the Triangle moving ahead. Your donation can secure 100 incentives for the rewards programs.
Sponsor rewards that pique the interest of solo commuters so they are tempted to try a new solution to the problem of getting to work. Your donation can tip the scales to get 50 commuters to commit to a new commute and participate in the incentive program
Every trip on the calendar provides useful information such as reduced emissions, gas savings, and number of smart commutes. Donations and prizes motivate loyal commuters to keep up the good work as well as continue using the calendar to track their progress. Gift cards and merchandise valued at $50 or more are excellent raffle items that motivate local commuters to continue saving the environment, the wear and tear on our roads and the money in their wallets.
